Book Review: Spectacle of Glory

I’ll be re-reading this as a daily devotional, but for the purpose of a book review, I read it in three days.

Spectacle of Glory: God’s Light Shining Through Me Every Day, by Joni Eareckson Tada, is a lovely compilation of short pieces to inspire and encourage daily.

I was introduced to Joni’s writing as a newlywed in June 1979. My husband and I often visited a Christian bookstore in Cedar Falls, where we attended college. One of the first books I picked up was the story of the accident that left her a quadriplegic, her Joni: An Unforgettable Story. The beauty of her art and her soul shone through in the pages of that book.

If you ever wonder why God created you, this devotional will help you see how God can use you to showcase his glory, and the importance of glorifying him through the toughest situations.

Words like this are wonderful reminders of how to do this:

“God will use every hardship, every bruise, in your life to strengthen your faith and train you in godliness.”  (page 23)

Or this:

“Has someone caused you harm? Hurt of maligned you? You can praise God today that He is in control of even that painful situation. If God allowed it, He has a purpose in it.”

Through this devotional, Joni helps the reader  find great comfort and encouragement by focusing on the one who longs to lead and guide you every step of the way.

I look forward to using it as a daily devotional in 2017.
